Travel Vaccinations
Since 2014 we have no longer been offering travel vaccinations or consultations.
Due to the high demand for GP and nurse appointments and the complexities of providing a full robust travel health service, anyone needing travel consultations/vaccinations is advised to contact the MASTA travel clinic:
www. masta-travel -health.com
We recommend the NHS Choices website which can provide comprehensive travel information as well as links to specific travel websites for advice on vaccinations required for the countries to be visited. These depend on the type of trip planned and associated risk factors.
Some travel vaccinations are free on the NHS and can be given by the practice nurse where recommended. Other vaccinations attract a private fee and need to given in a private travel clinic, the nearest being MASTA in Plymouth - Telephone 0330 1234 131
MASTA offers clinics with up-to-date information regarding all aspects of travel health and vaccine requirements. Unlike general practice, MASTA has access to the full range of vaccines as well as being able to facilitate appointments at short notice. The following websites also offer good information on general travel health along with vaccination requirements:
www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/ http://nathnac.org.uk/
We have not taken this decision lightly: each patient seen for travel advice/vaccinations takes three general appointments and for a family of four this would mean twelve fewer appointments available out of the working day. We are happy to continue to dispense private prescriptions for Malaria tablets upon request.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
It is important to make your initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel. Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
Travel Health Questionnaire
The following questionnaire may be helpful for planning your vaccinations.
