FLU VACCINATIONS 2020

28th October and 11th November are now cancelled.   " We have only a very small stock of vaccines left due to an unprecedented but welcome uptake but are unable to source an additional supply at present - further details will be given when we have more news" - many thanks.

There are again two different vaccines recommended:  QIVc for patients aged 65 years of age and over as at 30.9.20 and QIVe for those aged 18 to 64 years “at risk”, that is to say patients with asthma, diabetes or heart disease.    Carers and pregnancy also qualify as eligible for the vaccine.

The aim is to run these clinics (a) with safe social distancing and there will not be the customary teas and coffees this year and (b) not to have additional catch-up clinics in the surgery building afterwards.    Arrangements for child ‘flu vaccinations will be publicised later.

We urge all patients with internet access to look on the NHS Choices website for information about the vaccines, remind those intending to attend to NOT do so if they or anyone else in their household have Covid-19 symptoms and be aware that queues may form due to social distancing.   It would also be helpful if suitable clothing with short sleeves could be worn to ensure the nurses have easy access to upper arms to avoid even longer delays.

With regard to the Government's ambition to extend the vaccination programme to include the over 50s regardless of risk status, we are awaiting further advice and will be advertising additional arrangements when this is known;  this will not be before mid-November.
